Farm to School

  • Spend a day with a grower – students can spend a day with a grower as part of their school based traineeship preference
  • Take a farm tour – 5 Tours per year on a different local farm
  • Take an industry tour – 2 tours per year for students to the research station and science lab

Kindy Initiative

  • Grow your own vegetables
  • Bowen Gumlu Growers Association in collaboration with Supa Seedlings and Withcott Seedling provide seedlings and other equipment to local Kindy’s to support kids interaction in growing fresh produce and eating fresh produce.
  • Bowen Gumlu Growers Association also provide healthy eating ‘Fresh Tastes’ posters for kindy and kids friendly fresh tastes promotional products.

Food Tales

  • Presenting fresh produce in the local library
  • Part of a series of regional tours visiting libraries throughout Queensland from April to June, Food Tales brings words and stories to the table in a series of luscious narrative feasts. Food Tales is a celebration of the many traditions, cultures, and memories contained within recipes old and new. Join food blogger, Lorraine Elliot, aka Not Quite Nigella, for an author talk and creative food‚Äźwriting workshop, translating your favourite recipes and food experiences into your very own food tales. Bowen Gumlu Growers Assoc will provide fresh produce and present tales of fresh produce.

Cook for Life

  • Free cooking for life course will improve your basic cooking skills to prepare and cook healthy food. It is a Qld Health initiative in collaboration with Barrier Reef TAFE, Whitsunday Shire Council and Bowen Gumlu Growers Association.

PCYC Kids – Holiday program

  • Kids attending holiday care at the local PCYC spend the day learning about farming and fresh produce
